Maestro Jurowski debuts with SFS in a program featuring music by two sons of Russia. Rachmaninoff suffered greatly following the failure of his first published works--happily, he emerged from his sadness to produce a concerto of ravishing beauty, which listeners have adored since. Prokofiev's gripping work was originally the score to a film about Russia's first Tsar, whose accomplishments were overshadowed by his own dark past. Jurowski leads the Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and guests in the US premiere of a new arrangement of Prokofiev's final film score.
