Urban Solutions, an economic development nonprofit organization, and The Examiner are pleased to present the 2008 San Francisco Neighborhood Business Awards. The event recognizes top local, small businesses that have helped their communities. Past winners included Cole Hardware, Green Apple Books and the Balboa Theater. This year, Urban Solutions presents a new category for those neighborhood businesses with a commitment to environmental sustainability through a new Green Business Award. The event includes a reception with refreshments, live entertainment and a silent auction. The Presenter for this year's Awards is Phil Ting, Assessor-Recorder of the city of San Francisco. All winners will be announced on the day of the event.

The addition of a Green Business Award category for neighborhood businesses is new this year. Distinct from other honors bestowed upon businesses that focus on environmental sustainability, the SFNBA Green Business Award will be given to a local small business that fulfills the community-benefit criteria of the general neighborhood business award and is also pursuing green practices.

"With the ever-increasing awareness around climate change, Urban Solutions wanted to acknowledge a neighborhood business that's tackling the issue," explains Jenny McNulty, Executive Director of Urban Solutions. "When a small business, with few resources and a limited budget, dedicates itself to pursuing sustainability, that's what I call a true hero - to be applauded and thanked for their efforts," notes McNulty.

The San Francisco Neighborhood Business Awards, now in its fourth year, is also an opportunity for Urban Solutions to raise visibility about its programs supporting small businesses and microenterprises, as well as a fundraising event to support the nonprofit's many programs.

$50.00.
