In its new venue this year, the San Francisco Free Folk Festival kicks off on Saturday, June 16th and runs through Sunday, June 17th. Activities continue from noon until around 11pm both Saturday and Sunday. As the name suggests, the festival events are free, and features folk, blues, new acoustic and international music. In addition to performances by nationally recognized performers and favorite local artists, there are hands-on music and dance workshops, evening dance parties, special children’s activities, and programs for the entire family. Performers this year on four stages include:

* BIG WIDE GRIN, three extraordinary singer songwriters from Virginia
* Elegant strathspeys and energetic reels from DUNSMUIR * SCOTTISH DANCERS
* GRUPO GERMINAL’s musical guided tour of Latin American folk music and Nueva Cancion
* Award-winning duo MAMADOU AND VANESSA with a mix of Mali and American folk
* High energy Americana from DOWN NOT OUT
* MOH ALILECH’s passionate and spell-binding Algerian music
* intense gypsy klezmer music from KARPOV
and many more…

Workshops will include:
* Instrumental music: Cajun music jam, pizza box bodhran, concertina, Irish whistle, and dulcimer
* Singing workshops: sea shanties, Russian folk songs, mouth music, and outrageous songs
* Dance workshops: Israeli, Balkan, French, Tap, African, and Salsa
* Children’s and all-family activities, such as crafts, storytelling, singalongs
and more ... !

Evening dance parties: International folk dancing with Vecernica (Sat), A Vintage Ballroom Dance with Bangers & Mash (Sat); and Contra (Sun).

Food will be available onsite, and there will also be a Music and Crafts Marketplace.
