Artist Information

SALVADOR SANTANA & BAND
Keyboardist and composer Salvador Santana’s vibrant music mixes hip-hop, jazz, rock, Latin and other world idioms into a uniquely individual and totally contemporary style. His 2008 project with the Salvador Santana Band–simply called SSB–pursued the scope of his ability. But for Santana, it wasn’t enough. Now he returns to the Bay Area in December with a new band, including Jared Meeker on guitar/vocals, Blake Collie on drums, Itai Shapira on bass, and new vocalist/keyboardist Alex Nester, who was chosen following an extensive 2 month search.

Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut “Keyboard City” around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana’s writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. Santana also just released a new single, "MiTesoro", which will be featured at the shows, along with selections from “Keyboard City" and previous works.

Music truly thrives in Salvador Santana's veins. His maternal grandfather was blues pioneer Saunders King and his paternal grandfather was the internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. And, of course, his father is 10X Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana…who’s also a frequent collaborator (Salvador co-wrote “El Farol” from 1999’s smash album Supernatural). And with this current tour, Salvador Santana has truly become a brand of his own.

SCRIBE PROJECT
The Scribe Project delivers an eclectic blend of all genres of music, ranging from Hip Hop, Funk, Latin and Rock. Sammy “SCRIBE” Totah has been rapping on stage with Grammy Award winning performer Carlos Santana, and his son Salvador, since he was still in high school. As lead MC for the Salvador Santana Band, he has toured and performed throughout Europe, Canada and The United States -- opening for acts such as Santana, Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli and The Robert Randolph Band. Sammy began his journey as a classical musician studying at the prestigious San Francisco School of the Arts High School, where he excelled at learning 3 brass instruments. Being an MC and a songwriter for The Scribe Project has given Sammy the opportunity to create music that represents his soul and spirit. This five-piece band embodies a global experience, showing off hip hop/funk/rock and soul like you have never seen before. http://www.myspace.com/sammytakafloe
