While listening to Phonograph, one will notice the play on the traditional American sound that built the foundation of country and folk music in the 1950s.

Mattison is "part singer-songwriter, part fat beats, and part hotel-jazz-standard-hipster-piano-trio fronted by a sinfully delicious chanteuse-next-door with a voice straight outta the 1940s." The project is the brainchild of drummer Pete Sustarsic and songwriter/pianist Kate Mattison joined by bassist Jay Steinhauer to complete the curious sound.
