Pianist Sal Mosca (who LennieTristano regarded as his greatest student) chose a relatively simple life as a teacher and homebody after early experiences performing with Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan, and Miles Davis. Over the years Mosca has still managed to build a devoted group of admirers and achieve cult-like status among jazz fans. This date at Birdland, both solo and with his quintet, marks an extremely rare public performance not to be missed.
