Friday, June 1, Lesson 8pm-9pm, Open dancing 9pm-midnight

Swing Dancing and the Lindy Hop are alive and well in Charlestown, fueled by a resurgency in Trad Jazz.

This movement is an authentic aftershock after the Neo-Swing boom of the 1990s, the Gap ad that kicked off the swing revival. But where the first wave of the swing revival had an ironic wink with a drink in one hand to the past, this new wave of swing seeks to be more deeply grounded in authenticity and soul. Dancers and musicians don't seek to recreate the past or make fun of it, but to really connect with the music of Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke and a multitude of other now obscure musicians that time has tilled under the surface.

Boston Swing Central is a non-profit organization that runs a dance and lesson every Friday dedicate to the proliferation, preservation and promotion of the Lindy Hop and related Swing dances.

Friday June 1st, Boston Swing Central is happy to have The Rusty Scott Quartet return. It's been about a while since we last danced to Rusty Scott. And this time he's bringing with him guest saxophonist extraordinaire, Sax Gordon.

Rusty is a soulful and groovy pianist who has been a fixture on the Boston jazz scene for some time and has played for us on several occasions. Check out his versions of Night Train and Tuxedo Junction. His playing reminds us of a little bit of Jimmy Smith and Gene Harris combined. Sax Gordon has his own combo which plays in the area and this is first time at the Whistle Stop.
