"J. Craig Venter is one of the leading scientists of the 21st century. A pioneer in the world of genomic research, he is recognised for his visionary contributions to the field.

In February 2001, Venter published the completed sequence of the human genome.

He is founder and president of the J. Craig Venter Institute, one of the world’s largest genome research centres, which is currently developing new disease treatments, finding new ways of tackling environmental issues, especially the production of new biological sources of energy, and is also running the world’s most important science expedition, the Global Ocean Sampling Expedition."
