The Rose Garden at Chawton House was created last year to commemorate the bi-centenary of Jane Austen coming to live in the village of Chawton in 1809 at the invitation of her brother, Edward Austen Knight who owned the Manor of Chawton.
On Sunday 20th June, the Rose Garden should be in full bloom and visitors are invited to come and see it together with the Walled Kitchen Garden which was created by Edward with some advice from his sister, Jane. From 1pm to 5pm, adults £7.50, children £3, includes cream teas in the secluded courtyard. Quintessentially English!
