PROGRAM NOTES:
Every year at Rooftop we co-present a program with The Rural Route Film Festival, and usually we have a show about the greener side of life, the pastoral peace of country living. We spread out on the lovely lawn at Automotive High School, have a picnic, and wax poetic about nature—the quiet lands, the kindly folks, the soothing solitude. But that ain’t gonna happen this year. In this show we’ve got escaped convicts and their daring daughters, psychotic pumpkin salesman and their would-be sons, shitters, shiners and more. This show is about how that seemingly peaceful pasture turns into an eerily isolated nightmare. How that innocent little rube of a girl turns out to be a ruthless vixen. How one small town uniquely thrills for a sport that’s just a step above total mob chaos. This is a show to shock and shake up us city folk, and show off just how rugged the Rural Route is—this year we’re burning rubber in the road.
