Ronald A. Bosco and Joel Myerson will discuss how they began to research and to write their latest book, The Emerson Brothers: A Fraternal Biography in Letters. They will discuss the successes and pitfalls of producing the book, including locating original Emerson family manuscripts at a descendant’s house on Long Island, and deciding what form—documentary edition or biography—the book should take. Ronald A. Bosco is Distinguished Professor of English and American Literature at the University at Albany, SUNY, President of the Association for Documentary Editing, and General Editor for The Collected Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Joel Myerson is Carolina Distinguished Professor of American Literature, Emeritus, at the University of South Carolina, and Textual Editor for The Collected Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
