Williamsburg Regional Library and the early music ensemble HESPERUS invite you to spend an afternoon celebrating that gallant outlaw of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood. On Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, HESPERUS accompanies Douglas Fairbanks 1922 silent film, Robin Hood with a soundtrack of music from Robin Hoods time. Its not uncommon these days to hear live music accompany silent film, but with HESPERUS you will hear recorders, viols, lutes and other instruments playing music that the daring outlaw himself might have heard.

The film will be followed by an audience discussion of the film led by HESPERUS resident musicologist, Tina Chancey. Shell share some amusing speculation on the origins of everyones favorite hero, as well as some fascinating anecdotes about the making of the pioneering Hollywood film.

This program is free of charge and reservations or tickets are not needed. This program is part of a residency project in Williamsburg this spring in which HESPERUS is participating, sponsored by Chamber Music America.

While the film is appropriate for the entire family, because of the more than two-hour running time and the need to read captions it would be best for adults and older children. For more information, call the Youth Services Department at (757) 259-4055.
