8 p.m. Live music:
Rhys Chatham, Tony Conrad and Jonathan Kane
Tickets $15; includes Museum admission
An evening of experimental, minimalist music by three leaders in the genre: Rhys Chatham is a post-minimalist composer and figure in the Downtown New York music scene. Beginning in the 1970s, Chatham began composing using just intonation. Violinist and composer Tony Conrad has been a pioneering force behind the evolution of minimalism. He introduced the idea of ?Eternal Music,? a droning, mesmerizing performance idiom that employed long durations, amplifications and precise pitch to explore new worlds of sound. Jonathan Kane is a drummer and founding member of the experimental rock band Swans.
