In conjunction with Mexic-Arte Museum’s Aztec and Maya Revival exhibition, Dr. Raúl Ramos will speak about the politics of
indigenismo in the Porfirio Díaz regime and how it was situated in a broad historical context.

Raúl Ramos, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History at the University of Houston, is an authority on Texas history, the history of the American
West, and Chicano/a history. Dr. Ramos focuses on such historical processes as conquest, colonization, migrations, and cultural change. The recipient of prestigious fellowships, including one from the William Clements Center for Southwest Studies at Southern Methodist University, Dr. Ramos has one book in publication, Beyond the Alamo: Forging Mexican Ethnicity in San Antonio, 1821-1861
(University of North Carolina Press, 2008).
