Reno Tahoe Comedy presents Homeslice Productions’
“Improv – The Musical” for the 2011 Artown Season
[RENO, NV] “Improv—The Musical” is an all-original musical theater production written by, directed by, and starring The Utility Players, voted Best Comedy Troupe in Reno (RN&R 2010). This innovative show first debuted one-night-only during the 2010 Artown season. This year, Reno Tahoe Comedy brings this whimsical show to the stage for three nights at the Pioneer Underground.
“This production is the synthesis of everything we are as comedians and entertainers; we are so honored that Reno Tahoe Comedy has picked up our project, and that they are giving us the opportunity to bring this production to one of the best biggest-little stages in the city,” shares UtilityPlayer/Homeslice Productions creator and producer, Jessica Levity.
“Improv—The Musical” takes place in a faraway land known as Reno. The story is the somewhat mythical fairy tale about seven strangers who meet one surreptitious night at a local open mic, with dreams of fame, success, friendship, and love. Guided by their fairy godmother, these strangers come together to form an improv comedy troupe. However, unbeknownst to them, an evil witch is plotting against them, and attempts to steal all the ‘funny’ from Reno and the world. Can the Utility Players stop this villain and save the day? This musical features 12 original songs written by the Utility Players. And as the title suggests, some of the scenes, dialogue, and songs will be made up on the spot based upon audience suggestion; the Utility Players will be doing what they do best by playing real, live improv games that are magically woven into the story.
Director Christopher Daniels professes, “The support of Reno Tahoe Comedy and the opportunity to showcase our unique event during Artown helps to raise our troupe and our art to a much finer level. This is a chance for the Utility Players to become a permanent part of Reno’s entertainment scene; the stakes are now higher. We are taking this opportunity to step up our game, hone our comedy, and never stop growing.”
