REBAR DESIGN COLLECTIVE GIVES ARTIST LECTURE AND DISCUSSION

Re: mixing, re:make, re:consider and re:configure is the mantra and soil, grass and trees are the medium of San Francisco-based design collective, Rebar. Orlo presents Rebar for their first-ever appearance in Portland, Thursday March 27. Rebar will give a multi-media presentation and lead an open forum discussion at AIA Portland, 403 NW 11th Ave. Orlo invites the community to come participate in lively discussion with Rebar on challenging current notions of public space and Portland’s built environment. The event starts at 6:30pm, doors at 6pm, light refreshments will be available. $5 for guaranteed seating, suggested donation at the door. Tickets are available starting March 17 at www.orlo.org .
Friday (March 28): take a walk with Rebar and explore Portland’s public spaces. More information will be announced at the Thursday event.

Rebar is internationally known for Park[ing] Day which Rebar conceived in 2005 by transforming a metered parking space into a miniature public park complete with bench, grass and tree. Park[ing] Day has spread to New York City, Barcelona, Spain and Munich, Germany among others. Other Rebar projects include COMMONspace, a large-scale performance project aimed to reclaim San Francisco’s public private spaces. Rebar received national recognition for their 2003 design and creation of Cabinet magazine’s national library in the New Mexico desert.
