Jazz legend Dave "Fathead" Newman and Dallas jazz great Claude Johnson both died in the last few weeks. The South Dallas Cultural Center is hosting a celebration of their lives that will include music, film and verse. All are welcome to attend. The Jammin' House Band led by sax player Shelley Carrol and joined by Alan Green on drums, Jonathan Fisher on bass and Caleb McCampbell on piano will kick things off. Dallas area musicians are invited to sit in.

Claude Johnson was our friend and pianist for many years in Dallas and we made a couple of very good albums with him. He was an amazing arranger and writer. Whenever we do one of Claude's charts up here in NJ we refer to him as the Benny Golson of Dallas. Those times in Dallas were some of the best that Bob and I have ever had in music. Our condolances to his family and friends. The Dallas scene will be much poorer for his loss. We loved him.
