New School Flash

Flash has long had a bad rap within the web standards community, but the times are a changing. It’s ability to embed fonts, serve dynamic content, and compress video have given us many reasons to give Flash another chance. Unfortunately most of us have little experience with the powerful scripting aspect of this technology.

This month, Refresh Columbia aims to change that with two unique presentations on the topic of ActionScript.

Using Flash Extensions to Simplify ActionScript
with Gray Gunter (graygunter.com)
Gray is a designer at Cyberwoven with an masters degree in Digital Media from Georgia Tech.

What’s New with ActionScript3
with Greg Lunn (monkeyflash.com)
Greg is a Web Developer & Flash Animator for South Carolina ETV who also teaches web-related courses at Midlands Tech.

In addition to these two great presentations, we have another incentive to come out and join our community. Coffee Cup Software has graciously donated not 1, but 3 free passes to the Webmaster Jam Session on October 3rd in Atlanta, GA. We’ll be drawing names for all three of these passes at this month’s meetup, but if you don’t win one, we’ll have a coupon code (that we can’t publish here) for 30% off. So if you want to go to the Jam Session, be sure to be at this month’s meetup!
