Former Elgin Mayor and local historian E.C. 'Mike' Alft will provide insights into the late 1920s conditions of Mexican-Americans in Elgin followed by the award-winning PBS documentary that tells the little-known story of the Mexican-American lawyers who in 1954 took Hernandez v. Texas to the U.S. Supreme Court, challenging Jim Crow-style discrimination. A group discussion led by Judson University Professor Christine Starzynski will take place after the film.
