Bucheon is pleased to present a two person exhibition for Seattle painter Grant Barnhart and Bay area artist Serena Cole. The show will open Friday September 7,2007 with a reception for the artists from 6-8pm and run through October.

Grant has created a body of work that covers a lot of material through beautifully rendered drawings and paintings. He studied illustration at Columbus College of Art and Design and he has evolved into a masterful storyteller. The work is reminiscent of an adult fairy tale with imaginary creatures and soldiers fighting giant animals with bows and arrows. It is wonderfully engaging and inventive and can compel the viewer to spend a lot of time with each picture. He is fascinated by the idea that humans and animals can be innocent one minute and brutally violent the next.

Grant has a devoted following in Seattle where he first transitioned into fine art,(he used to go by the name Tra Selhtrow...worthless art backwards) and has shown his work internationally and most recently has been published in Juxtapoz.

Serena Cole recently graduated from CCA in painting and drawing and has already been showing her work quite extensively through her participation in a very exciting East Bay artist collective as well as at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts,Oakland Art Gallery and other alternative venues... As a young painter she has found a passionate focus that seems beyond her years.

Exploring the contemporary idea of beauty through fashion magazines as an initial source, Serena uses portraiture to address behind the image and superficiality of a pose The viewer is struck by the sadness and alienation that is portrayed, rather than the glib look of a supermodel. Painted and drawn with a delicate and intuitive hand, Serena captures a different consciousness of the angst of youth today.
