From the writings of Rachel Corrie

Our dramatization is based on Rachel's writings; an evening of remembrance and celebration of the best of youthful American idealism. Rachel was the daughter of middleclass, liberal parents brought up in the secure community of Olympia Washington. The story of Rachael Corrie is reminiscent of George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia. As with Spain, during its 1930's Civil War, Palestine has its "Abraham Lincoln Brigade" of Internationalist activists who want to help, regardless of personal risk. Orwell lived through his participation in that war to face disillusionment . Rachel Corrie did not. On March 16th 2003, the 23 year old was killed in the Gaza Strip, crushed beneath an American-made bulldozer of the Israeli Defense Force, while trying to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes.
