The San Francisco Film Society’s SF360 Film+Club, a monthly social screening series, returns on Friday, January 25, at 7:00 pm at Mezzanine (444 Jessie Street at Mint) with the triumphant reprise of its wildly successful Trapped in the Closet Sing-Along R. Kelly’s hip-hopera with guest curator and host Henri Mazza of the Alamo Draft House Cinema of Austin, Texas.

To say that R&B artist R. Kelly’s hip-hopera Trapped in the Closet is astounding would severely undersell the audacity, wonder and (possible) genius of this “work.” The film is as melodramatic as Douglas Sirk and as earnest as Ed Wood. The only thing that could improve it would be to present it as a Sing-Along, and that’s exactly what Mazza will do. Included with Trapped will be a selection of R. Kelly’s amazing music videos, a Trapped remake by a high school student and a claymation Santa-themed Trapped in the Clauset.

Following the screening the Beat Electric DJs will perform dance classics from their repertoire of great and obscure disco, Italian boogie and old-school hip-hop.

Doors open at Mezzanine at 7:00 pm, program starts at 7:30 pm. Complimentary tasting of Damrak Amsterdam Gin will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $8 at the door or $5 if reserved in advance by emailing [email protected]. Must be 21+ to attend.

SF360 Film+Club is presented by the San Francisco Film Society, Mezzanine and Rehab, and is sponsored by SF Weekly and Damrak Amsterdam Gin.
