Quintet-sential Opera - A Feast for the Senses May 29, 2009

Five premier opera soloists with the BACH Ensemble perform at the intimate setting of the Pro Arts Gallery in the Jack London Square district of downtown Oakland. Featuring quintets, trios, duets and arias from Mozart's masterpiece ensemble opera Cosi Fan Tutte. Also presenting arias and scenes for the range of operatic voices from opera standards including Marriage of Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Romeo et Juliette, Italian Girl in Algiers and more. Wine and more available at intermission.

Katie Francis, mezzo-soprano, has been featured in productions with San Francisco City College, Lamplighter's Musical Theatre, Hillbarn Theare, and The Altarena Playhouse. Katie has participated in the BASOTI program, performed with the Josquin Singers, has performed with Bay Area Classical Harmonies (B.A.C.H.) as a soloist in J.S. Bach's Johannes Passion and last June as a soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria. Past roles include Mother Theresa in Granger's The Proposal, Lady with Hat Box in Argento's Postcard from Morocco, and as Aldonza/Dulcinea in Leigh's Man of La Mancha. Katie will be performing as Marcellina in Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro with B.A.C.H. this fall.

Soprano Katherine Howell was recently honored with a Bell T. Ritchie Award from the Fresno Musical Club. She was recently cast as Pitti Sing in the Mikado with Capitol Opera, and she will be appearing as Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro with Bay Area Classical Harmonies in Berkeley, CA in the Fall. Katherine sang in the St. Matthew Passion under the direction of Kent Nagano on the Brazil tour of the Orchestra of the Americas. Her roles include the Countess in the Marriage of Figaro and Statue of Liberty in The Proposal with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, as well as Pamina with Cal Opera. She is a graduate of the SF Conservatory of Music, and UC Berkeley.
