QPR?
Quality:Price Ratio! Wines that show exceptional value at all price points, earn the admiring moniker that wine geeks call "Quality-Price Ratio" or, for short, "QPR." If you look at our web chart (c'mon, it hasn't been that long since Algebra, has it?), you'll see two lines coming out in the high "Q" area: one that's expensive and one that's not! For this dinner, we are focusing on what we call the "Superfind": really inexpensive wines that taste great, go very well with food, and have earned high marks or the respect of the wine press. Oh, and did we forget to mention the retail prices of all of our wines? $10! That's right. Look at the menu-a Marlborough Sauv Blanc for $10? A California Cab for $10?
We are please to present Tricia Phelan of Vintage Wine Distributor and a specially paired "Easy @ Home" menu from Grovewood's award-winning kitchen. A complimentary recipe book of the dishes served (but adapted for the home kitchen) will be presented. All wines will be available to add to your collection at State Minimum Retail Pricing ($10!!), with case discounts (10%)available.

Superfind Wine......Course
Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc 2008 (Marlborough, New Zealand)......Shrimp, Feta & Honeydew Jumble with spiced honey gastrique
90 points in the Wine Spectator: "Vivid, refreshing and brimming with lime-accented pear, star fruit and light vanilla flavors, lingering nicely on the expressive finish. Drink now. 2,000 cases imported." (April 2009) Meyer lemon, tangerine, lime zest, papaya and pineapple. A veritable cocktail of fruit flavors, but fortunately the Dashwood never tastes like fruit cocktail. Nor is it overwhelmed with the grassy, herbal flavors that sometimes plague the value wines of New Zealand. This wine has lovely delineation of flavors ranging from the citrus to the tropical, but it never becomes cloying or overbearing.
Raimat Albariño 2008 (Costers del Segre, Spain)......Pancetta-wrapped Scallop, fig compote
Pale yellow in color with greenish hues that indicate the wine's freshness. Intense aromas of citrus, dried flowers and spices with an additional hint of sweet vanilla and dried fruit on the nose. On the palate: pleasant initial impression that brings out the full complexity of aromas present on the nose. The aftertaste is persistent with a citrus finish that provides ample freshness.
ZaZa Garnacha Rosé 2008 (Campo de Borja, Spain)......Mackenzie Creamery Chèvre Skewers
Campo de Borja in Spain is an arid, sunny region in central Spain. Rosés such as this dot the tables of Madrid and Logorno during the long mid-day meal. Served with cured ham, sausage, mushrooms and other tapas, rose is perfect for big food on a hot day. Full of intense strawberry, spice and floral aromas, this wine bears little resemblance to either the rosés of France, or the stuff you drank on prom night. More red than pink, it is cold wine for the red wine drinker. Wine Advocate: "Rose values under $20." Score: 86.
Guenoc North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (California)......Grilled Bratwurst, zucchini frites & Dijon crème fraîche
This cabernet shows wonderful red cherry and candied aromas with hints of tobacco and spice. It is a medium bodied, well balanced cabernet that has soft tannins and lush flavors of blackberry and chocolate. A long, mouth-watering finish rounds out this wine. This wine pairs beautifully with tomato sauce pastas and grilled meats. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah, 5% Merlot.
Laurel Glen "Reds" 2007 (Lodi, California)......Gorgonzola-Studded Mini-Angus Burgers, cumin-dusted corn wheels
It's dark, spicy, and powerful; but it's equally fresh and delicious, with enough natural acidity to invite another glass. This is not a ponderous monster, but rather a large-scaled and graceful wine that matches beautifully with full flavored foods! Composition: zinfandel (40 - 80 years old) 60%; carignane (118 y/o) 30%; petite syrah ( 20 y/o) 10%. 2007 was a great vintage year in Lodi, producing wines of great color intensity and flavor, and most importantly, of balance.
Coffee or Tea......Hot Pecan Waffle with ice cream and fleur de sel caramel
