Punk Planet Magazine will present a seminar on intellectual property and copyright issues for independent publishers, artists, zine-makers and students on Monday, November 13th at Columbia College (Room 219) at 6:30 pm.

Speaking will be Kristin Lingren of Mandell Menkes LLC, a Chicago IP Lawyer who will provide the audience with an overview of intellectual property and copyright concerns that are unique to the independent press, and examine issues of liability and ways to avoid litigation. For example, if an artist or independent publisher were to create/reproduce art that uses corporate trademarks in a cultural or political critique, what would be the legal liability of the publisher for reproducing such works, and what recourse would the artist or publisher have in the case of a legal challenge?

Following the presentation there will be a Q&A session with Kristin Lingren during which the audience can receive clarification of the complicated and often confusing minutiae of copyright law. We believe it will be a provocative and educational evening for publishers, freelancers, visual artists, zine-makers and students involved in the Chicago independent press community.
