The impetus for the program was the release of the DC Appleseed HIV/AIDS report entitled ?HIV/AIDS in the Nation?s Capital: Improving the District of Columbia?s response to a Public Health Crisis??but the purpose of the program is to take a step back and to ask: ?Where are we? And where are we going?? And, perhaps more importantly, ?How can nonprofits, private funders, and government officials work together to improve the HIV/AIDS crisis in the District??

It is extremely important that there be a good turnout for this event. Attendance is obviously warranted because of the urgency of the topic itself. But a good turnout is also important for symbolic reasons: to demonstrate to private funders, government officials, and the media (all of whom will be in attendance) that the community cares about this issue and is committed to making meaningful improvement.
