Providence Hospice of Seattle and Safe Crossings Pediatric Luncheon September 27, 2012

Hospice pioneer and grief educator Gerri Haynes, RN, will be the keynote speaker at Providence Hospice of Seattle's 13th annual Pediatric Luncheon, "Making a Difference in the Lives of Terminally Ill and Grieving Children," on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. The event is co-hosted by the Safe Crossings Foundation and is expected to attract more than 900 people.

Haynes, who lives in Kirkland, has worked extensively in hospice and palliative care in the Northwest. She will talk about some of the amazing people and inspiring stories she has discovered while helping families and children prepare for and heal after the loss of a loved one. King-5 TV news anchor Dennis Bounds will emcee the Pediatric Luncheon.

Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Providence Hospice of Seattle's children's hospice and palliative care program and children's grief support program. "These programs make it possible for all children and families to receive the medical and psychological support they need during these difficult times," said Gary Crum, director of the Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation.

Doors open for the event at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins promptly at noon at the Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Place, in Seattle. Participants will not be charged for lunch, but a $150 donation is requested. Funds raised will be used toward pediatric hospice and palliative care and children's grief support services, including Camp Erin - King County, a summer camp for kids who are struggling with the death of a loved one.
