Modern visual culture is inextricably linked to creative artists who explore new directions and push boundaries. At the same time technological changes have transformed the visual image and the transfer of visual information. Printmakers have both brought innovations to established print media and at the same time embraced new digital processes. Among the artists pushing boundaries are Jay Bolotin, Willie Cole, and Julie Mehretu. Those exploring new horizons with digital technology include Ann Hamilton, Jane Hammond, and Jennifer Purdum. This exhibition explores through recent acquisitions to the permanent collection printmaking in the first decade of the twenty-first century.
