Armenia’s greatest living musician, Djivan Gasparyan, and groundbreaking Canadian guitarist and producer Michael Brook reunite on stage in anticipation of their first collaborative CD since their 1998 fusion masterpiece Black Rock. Master of the duduk, the ancient Armenian oboe-like instrument, the Grammy nominated Gasparyan is renowned worldwide through collaborations with the likes of Brain Eno, Kronos Quartet, Peter Gabriel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Lovely and elegiac, his music can be heard on numerous soundtracks including The Last Temptation of Christ, Gladiator, Syriana and Blood Diamond.

Best known for his signature world fusion work with the late Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Brook is widely regarded as one of the most inventive and multifaceted forces in the music industry. His atmospheric, electronically enhanced guitar sound has graced countless films, including Affliction, An Inconvenient Truth, Heat and Black Hawk Down.

All Music Guide described Gasparyan and Brook’s Black Rock, as “a record of dazzling eclecticism and uncommon soulfulness. Brook’s arrangements bring a contemporary edge to the ancient mystery and emotiveness that characterize Gasparyan’s work.” In an evening of sonic rapture, Brook and Gasparyan perform both separately and together, featuring the premiere of music from their new collaborative CD.
