1881 Post Street (at Fillmore)
San Francisco, California 94115

Local luminaries Beth Lisick and Arline Klatte bring their acclaimed nonfictional storytelling series, Porchlight, to SFIFF for a special night of film-specific stories on the theme "Behind the Scenes." Festival guests will participate, regaling us with true, sometimes titillating, often absurd tales about making movies. Among many special guests will be Claudia Gonson, member and manager of the band the Magnetic Fields (whose bandmate, singer/songwriter Stephin Merritt, performs his original score to the silent-era epic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as part of this year’s Festival). Gonson will relay her wacky brushes with the film world. Also joining the lineup is Kaspar Schroeder, Danish director of the documentary The Invention of Dr. Nakamats, who will draw from the many surreal situations he encountered while making a film about his eccentric subject. On board too is Pedro González-Rubio, director of Alamar, who will share intel on the life of a filmmaker and international travel. Porchlight regular Marc Capelle and his ensemble, the Casuals, will provide musical accompaniment. This is a unique chance to hear some of the most creative figures in independent media tell real stories about their community and craft.
