Poppy Seed Players: Queen Esther March 1, 2009

'Queen Esther' is a light-hearted look at the ancient Biblical story. In this version, Esther is an ambitious girl who dreams of being queen and denies her Jewish identity in order to succeed. Her Uncle Mordechai (played by playwright Ryan Cunningham) is an eccentric dairy farmer whose ode to the farming life, "Milking the Cow," is one of the comic highpoints of the show. King Ahasuerus is an insecure monarch who is being manipulated by the wily and dangerous Haman. Queen Esther combines zany comedy, off-beat romance, colorful characters and a catchy, melodic score.
