This performance of works composed during the era of the Impressionist painters examines the relationship between Impressionistic painting and music. In the latter part of the nineteenth century artists such as Edgar Degas began painting shimmering, light-filled pictures that came to be known as 'Impressionist.' Subsequently, composers such as Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel began experimenting with sound and harmonic color in their music, in a way that conveyed a fleeting impression or mood. Dr. Chambers-Salazar performs a variety of piano works that features the Impressionist style, and discusses the art and music of that era.
