2011 W North Ave
Chicago, Illinois

PISTIL, Chicago?s magazine for groundbreaking talent (www.pistilmag.com), will host ?PISTIL Whipped? on June 24, 2005, at Subterranean, 2011 North Ave. This rough and rowdy evening will feature the talents of a section of Chicago?s up-and-coming rock ?n? roll scene. The debauchery commences at 9 p.m. with Dummy, Vee Dee, The Terrible Twos and Mannequin Men ? and of course, the good people of PISTIL. Dummy, described by Jim DeRogotis of the Chicago Sun-Times as ?a blend of post-punk stylings and power punk sing alongs,? has been playing the Chicago scene for 10 years and has built a trusty following. Vee Dee?s trashy garage rock seems to have wide influences from The Buzzcocks to Pink Floyd, and, according to Wez Lundry of Thrasher Magazine, ?Vee Dee has some Psych, but lays pretty goddamn balls out, interrupted by the occasional wailing solo.? The Terrible Twos ? a punk band with a wild MC5-type edge (think Human Eye and The Clone Defects) ? have been tearing up the state of Michigan, and this show marks their Chicago debut. Rounding off the evening are the Mannequin Men, a popular Chicago-based band with a sound not unlike early Wire. An $8 cover will be collected at the door. The proceeds from the evening will benefit PISTIL, the magazine that celebrates the creativity, ingenuity and relevance of modern culture and aims to inspire readers with a diverse coverage of news, issues, fashion, events, arts, music and sexuality. PISTIL?s sixth issue, ?Guts,? will be released late August. PISTIL?s fifth issue, ?Idol,? is on sale now and will be available at the event.
