Brilliant young Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin makes his San Francisco recital debut, presented by San Francisco Performances. His program, for which he wrote his own program notes, will be: CHOPIN: Fantaisie in F minor, Op. 49; Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major; Two Mazurkas; Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52; STEVENSON: Fugue on a Fragment of Chopin; LISZT: Transcendental Etude No. 11 in D-flat Major, "Harmonies du Soir"; RAVEL: "Gaspard de la Nuit."

Hailed by London's Daily Telegraph as "potentially one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century," Sudbin is in the midst of a seven-year, 14-disc Beethoven concerto cycle for BIS Records. His schedule this season includes recitals at Wigmore, Tonhalle, Concertgebouw and the Gilmore International Piano Festival. Orchestral engagements include Scriabin's "Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor" with the London Philharmonic under Neeme Jarvi and Shostakovich "Piano Concerto No. 2" with the Philharmonia under Sokhiev, both at Royal Festival Hall in London.

Born in St. Petersburg in 1980, Yevgeny Sudbin displayed exceptional musical talent early on and at age seven entered the Specialist Music School of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1990 he continued his studies in Berlin, then moved to London where he has lived since 1997, studying with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music. He also attended the International Piano Foundation at Lake Como, Italy and has taken lessons with Murray Perahia, Claude Frank, Leon Fleisher, Stephen Hough, Alexander Satz and others.
