For our first UG meeting of 2012 we have Mark Baker giving a talk entitled "Why Should I Consider Compiling PHP?" It's a question that crops up quite frequently on PHP boards: how can I compile my PHP code? Some people believe it will boost the speed of their scripts, or reduce memory; others consider compilation as a possible form of obfuscation to prevent their code being "stolen". A compiler can (at least partly) fulfil these requirements, but creates a whole host of additional problems... it isn't the best solution for any of them; but it does have other benefits. This talk takes a look at compiling PHP code, and most specifically at the PHC compiler.

PHPNW (PHP North West) is a group focussing on the PHP web development language in the North-of-England.
