Mobile phones are no longer just differentiated by their hardware features - software features are becoming increasingly important, especially for smart phones.

Similar to the personal computer industry in the 1980's, in the smart phone industry there are many software platforms competing for the consumer's attention: Apple iPhone, Google Android, Palm Pre, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Nokia Ovi plus more on the horizon. Are we likely to see a consolidation of these platforms in the future, as happened to the PC industry? Has Apple already won, given its huge advantage in applications? Will Google's "open" model win or hinder consumer adaptation? Does Windows still matter, especially on a phone? Can Palm and Nokia catch up? What other leading contenders can we expect?

Which platforms are preferred by consumers and why? Which platforms are preferred by developers? And does this matter? Will the consumer market for smartphone applications eventually supersede PC applications, reshaping the nature of software development?

What about the market outside the USA? Are certain platforms more favored for dominance in Europe, Asia, and beyond? These trends and questions will be discussed by our panel of experts:
Daniel Kellmereit - CEO, Detecon
Angela Nicoara - Sr. Research Scientist, TMobile
Ray Milhelm - CTO, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (and former VP, Motorola)
Christof Wittig - CEO, Servo Software Inc
