Rachel Matthews has performed widely across the United States, Canada and Europe. She has appeared at venues such as the 92nd Street Y in New York, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, and on the Accueil Musical series in Paris. Matthews served for nine years as co-Artistic Director of the Foothills Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina. Here in the Northwest, Matthews is artistic director of City Music, a critically acclaimed chamber music series that donates all ticket proceeds to a variety of local nonprofits. Increasingly active as a composer, Matthews recently received her first commission, from the Jerome Foundation through the American Composers Forum, to write a piano quintet to be premiered in St. Paul and Iowa City in the 2007-08 season. Rachel Matthews is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, and holds master's and doctoral degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
