From its origins in song to the childlike simplicity of its final movement, Mahler's Symphony No. 4 is unusually modest, intimate, and classical. The intensity of Berg's Violin Concerto, dedicated "To the Memory of an Angel," will provide perfect counterpoint to Mahler's heavenly evocations.
