An exhibition in celebration of 350 Years of Jewish Life in America, featuring works dating back as early as the sixteenth century, will be on display from May 5 to September 7, 2004.
The exhibition is one of the many highlights of a nationwide initiative, JTS Celebrates America: Imagination, Achievement & Inquiry, honoring the 350th anniversary of the arrival of Jews on American shores. Treasures from the exhibit include the Polyglot Psalter, the first polyglot Biblical work published (1516), which includes the first printed biography of Christopher Columbus, a three-dollar bill commissioned by the Continental Congress (1776), and Isaac Pinto's pioneering English translation of the Jewish liturgy for the Sabbath, Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (Jewish Day of Atonement) (1766).
