It’s not just another holiday craft market. The Green Christmas Market sells stylish clothing, jewelry, accessories and house wares that just happen to be sustainable.

Christi York, creator of the “Eat Organic” panty, came up with the concept after having shopped at an array of different holiday markets. She was happy to support the local crafters and designers but thought, why not take feel good shopping one step further. So she orchestrated the one day celebration of uniquely sustainable holiday gifts to showcase local talent working with an environmental mindset.

“The items in the market were juried for quality, design and their environmental impact. Every dress, necklace and bowl we saw included a list of materials so we could determine what made the mark as a sustainable product.”

So there are re-usable bags from Bring Your Own Bag, recycled leather earrings from BuenoStyle, the Ocean Soap Company sells all natural soap, Torn Clothing designs fashionable women’s wear out of organic materials, and Passionflowers reworks vintage wool blankets into throw pillows. Other local entrepreneurs creating modern, high quality products for the markets are Bernadette the Spider, Bentwood by Contexture Design, Cozy Knits Literally, Dahlia Drive, Dotted Loop, and Mod to Modern.

Come shop for stylishly sustainable gifts on Saturday December 9 at the Blim Arts Centre (187 E. 17th ave. @ Main St.) from 11am-6pm. Admission is free.

Get all those last minute gifts bought and know that you have also given a gift to the earth this holiday season.
