Guitarist, Pat Metheny burst into the international jazz scene in 1974. During his three-year stint with vibraphonist Gary Burton, Metheny already displayed his soon-to-become signature playing style – blending the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility. Playing and improvising that is modern in conception but deeply grounded in jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. Throughout his career, Metheny has continued to re-define the genre by utilizing new technology and working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. His versatility has given him the opportunity to perform with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie to Joni Mitchell. www.patmetheny.com/

Pianist, Brad Mehldau has recorded and performed since the early 1990’s – working primarily with the same trio since 1995. Known as an improviser, who cherishes the surprise and wonder that can occur from a spontaneous musical idea that expresses directly, in real time. But Mehldau is also fascinated with the formal architecture of music and it informs everything he plays. Both sides of Mehldau’s musical personality – the improviser and the formalist – play off one another, and the effect is often something like controlled chaos and as range of expression. Like Pat Metheny, Mehldau’s talent has led him to record with such diverse musicians as Joshua Redman, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Charles Lloyd. www.bradmehldau.com/
