NetSAP DC's community celebrates many festivals and fairs. Every festival has some traditional or religious importance. South Asian holidays denote color, vivacity, appetizing food and a variety of prayers and rituals. Some festivals welcome the seasons of the year, the harvest, the rains, or the full moon. Others celebrate religious occasions, the birthdays of divine beings, Saints, and gurus (the revered teachers), or the advent of the New Year. A number of these festivals are common to most parts of South Asia; however, they may be called by different names or may be celebrated in a different fashion. Every festival is celebrated in a unique style.

The Families committee would like to represent some of the South Asian holidays celebrated during the winter season. The Passage to South Asia is a great way to teach our children about Diwali, Eid and Christmas traditions in a fun and interactive way!
