Madras Terrance House is organising an exhibition of paintings by Sri Lankan refugee children. While most children their age draw pictures that say “Mommy, daddy and I”, these kids’ drawings are confined to bombings, guns, houses on fire and boats full of people. Welcome to ‘Sunshine in a Tear Drop’, an exhibition of Sri Lankan refugee children’s drawings. The drawings give a glimpse into the troubled minds of the children, and are an expression of their memories, aspirations and anxieties. For a few of these children, refugee camp life is the only life they have ever known. Many of them have lived through war, hunger, fear, bombings and turmoil. Organisation for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation (OFERR), an NGO, organised a drawing competition in which over 500 children aged five to 15 from 117 camps in Tamil Nadu participated.
