"Paradise and Other Habitats"
paintings by Miriam Hitchcock

September 5 - October October 11,2008

Reception Friday, September 5, 2008, 6-8pm

Bucheon is pleased to present for the first time, two Northern California painters Sarah Ratchye and Miriam Hitchcock with a show of compelling new works.
Sarah works to portray astronauts as "saints of the space age". Working in various mediums, she uses realistic and beautifully rendered techniques to create narratives that explore the limitless possibilities and imagination of space exploration and discovery. Throughout her work there are familiar symbols and icons painted with rich palates and her own humorous affection for the ongoing roles of writers, scientists and cosmonauts in the race to the moon.

Miriam Hitchcock created the core of her work for the exhibition at a month long residency in Costa Rica. She found the time away from her own studio and familiar world, made her aware of what would be essential for this experience . She chose to work in materials that could be easily transported, but large and wonderfully suited for appreciation of the tropical environment.

The "landscapes" are personal paintings covering a lot of territory with an acknowledgement of the fragility of the environment and how it relates to human longings..Using gouache, gold leaf with a sensitivity for every inch of space, Miriam creates her "paradise".

No charge.
