DENVER, CO - The Byers-Evans House Museum is presenting paintings by Denver artist Nicholas Reti from November 6 through November 29. An opening reception on Friday, November 6 from 5-9 p.m. will coincide with the Denver Arts Week Know Your Arts First Friday. In 2008, Reti received Best of Show in the second annual Denver Plein Air Arts festival. This year the Byers Evans House Gallery, in its third year of collaboration with the Art Festival, will host a show for the previous years festival winner. On view will be Reti’s oil paintings of the landscapes of Colorado, as well as paintings from his recent travels to Italy and Southern Africa.

Reti’s paintings explore the compositions and effects light creates in the natural world. On display are paintings created plein-air and several large paintings that took more than 6 months to complete. “To paint from life is not only to capture the likeness of a place, but also to evoke a sense of being aware.” Reti wrote. The paintings depict a variety of subjects including mountains covered in aspen, rushing streams, winter sunsets and quiet sunlit corners. Several paintings of Southern Africa and Italy reveal the artist’s passion for travel. Reti, at 30, has been painting for more than fifteen years. His paintings have received first place awards at the previous two Denver Plein Air Arts festivals. Last year he was selected as one of Southwest Art magazine’s 21 Under 31 Artists to Watch (September 2008).

The Denver Plein Air Arts Festival, in September, hosted over 100 artists who painted, drew, and photographed some of Denver’s most recognizable places including the Governors Residence, the 16th street mall, the Denver Art Museum, and Civic Center park. The festival, in its third year, provides artists in Denver and the region a great opportunity for citywide exposure. The event is organized by the Golden Triangle Museum District.
