Osaka, Japan–based sound artist Tetsuya Umeda brings his ongoing project Waitool Sounds to the SFAI campus. Umeda will give a twenty-minute performance on the quad, which will be followed by a presentation in the McBean Gallery. The performance is curated by Mizuki Endo.

The Waitool Sounds project began in San Francisco in April 2007 and will end in May 2007. The project is a series of works that includes sound performances, sound installations, and field recordings. Each work contains site-specific, ad hoc arrangements.

Intently surveying his designated site in order to evoke new listening experiences, Umeda improvises a sound situation in which his audience is challenged to interfere—or resonate—with his multivalent creations.

A CD, a DVD, and a documentary website will be produced at the completion of the project.
