This affecting film strings together the self-told narratives of five women artists living in New York. Swoon, the youngest, exhibits cut-outs directly on city walls and subways, exuding boundless idealism and energy. Cairo-born Ghada Amer mixes media to confront sexual taboos that cross cultural boundaries. Kiki Smith creates widly influential paintings and sculptures; Marina Abramovic is a performance art pioneer who often uses her own body as a canvas. And Nancy Spero melds are and activism to become, in her own words, "a woman warrior." (2008, 85 min, digital video)
