Orchids: Sensuality Stiched February 8, 2010

This is an exhibit being shown at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. It's an exhibition of orchid-inspired work by Fiber Art Options, seven women artists from the Charlotte area who work in fabric, paper and thread. These pieces capture the exotic, sensual, colorful and sometimes humorous nature of orchids. The exhibition captures the exotic, colorful essence of the most diverse plant family on earth. Each artist created three quilts based on orchids from The Orchid Conservatory. A second series is comprised of a quilt from each artist based off of one photograph, creating a series of interpretations on a single image. With their mix of traditional and contemporary techniques, the exhibit will be sure to delight and inspire quilt enthusiasts as well as orchid fans as they bring orchids to life with fabric.
