Canadian conductor Justin Bischof is returning home from New York City for his Canadian conducting debut to present an evening of evening of music by Canadian and international composers for chamber orchestra and opera singers. The works—drawn from contemporary and classical repertoires as well as featuring a pop/rock/country gospel side—will be selected to explore and develop the theme of TRASH in the musical context, including trashy songs, characters, and stories. Featuring Opera Montreal star soprano Ariana Chris, the evening will include compositional commissions receiving their world premiere as well as an improvised Trash Suite on the piano by Bischof (a world-reknowned improviser) using musical themes suggested by audience members.

Bischof is the General & Artistic Director of The Modus Opera Company of New York City and is the newly appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Golden Key Opera Company of Honolulu. An internationally acclaimed concert organist Bischof has performed around the globe with such ensembles as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and The Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He won the Gold Medal at the 2000 National AGO Improvisation Competition, and has established a new and exciting tradition of concerts comprised entirely of improvisations in a variety of styles and recently recorded a live all improvisation concert for National Czech Radio.

Admission to TRASH OPERA is $10 at the door, or free for those with a copy of Alphabet City no. 11: TRASH, available at the door for $20. TRASH is your ticket for free admission to all TRASH festival events.
