OpenStreetMap Mapping Party -come make a community-generated map for Beantown August 1, 2009

Mapping is fun! It's both oddly compelling and soothing to the brain to make a map of the world more complete. Add your favorite restaurant, bookstore, bicycle path, trail, or bench to the map, and share the love!

We do both tracing of aerial photographs (if the weather is bad), and/or we'll send you out with a GPS receiver (we have ones to loan out if you have none) to record the locations of interesting things. When we've entered those things, we can see how they get rendered on the map for everyone to enjoy.

Bring a laptop if you have one. If you want to do photomapping (I'll explain on Sunday), bring a digital camera. If you want to get really adventurous, bring a digital voice recorder and we'll try audiomapping.
